I went to Joanna Newsom's concert last week. Joanna is one of the coolest worldwide musicians who is a harpist and a singer song writer. Her music has unique melody, so I've been a big fan of her since I heard her debut album.
Recently, she appeared in Paul Thomas Anderson's movie “Inherent Vice” as a cast and a narrator, and she released her new album “Divers” last year. This concert was a tour for the album.
A notable point in this concert in Japan is that the concert was held at a moderate-scale chapel. Nowadays, she normally performs at a big hall or theatre, so her performing in moderate-scale place was very rare case, We were lucky. Additional fortunate thing was that she came to Japan with her beautiful band including 4 great musicians such as Ryan Francesconi, Mirabai Peart, Peter Newsom, and Veronique Serret.
As for the concert, needless to say, it was quite splendid. Actually, her music doesn't have showiness, but it is innocent, intelligential, and musically rich. It sometimes sounds like an old mythical fairy tale. 4 great musicians' performances were also brilliant. They made only minimum necessary sounds for Joanna, but those sounds maximally added spice to her voice and sound, then the hall was filled with musical richness. They may be one destination of mature band. Anyway, I hope that you see her performance once.
